Others more lucid and informed will be blogging about the national picture, but here in Wirral South, Alison McGovern held the seat for Labour despite the Conservative Candidate (previously Lib-Dem) working the seat for three years and bundles of Ashcroft money, manifested in billboards on what seemed every corner of the constituency. Ashcroft’s intervention didn’t exactly help one the Tories other big hopes in Wirral either, Leah Fraser. Not only did she fail to make any inroads into Angela Eagle’s majority in Wallasey, she’s also lost her relatively safe seat on the council to Darren Dodd today as well! Despite the setback in Wirral West, the Labour vote has mobilised really well in Wirral, so well done to all the candidates, agents and campaigners.
